The Association Today
Since the Association’s founding, our membership has grown to 265 residents whose participation and contributions fund the work of the Association in ensuring respectful infill development. Development activity is closely monitored by the Board of Directors who advocate that developers be considerate of the historic character of the neighbourhood and the Carruthers Caveat when undertaking development.
Likewise, ongoing work with the City of Edmonton is critical for maintaining the character of Glenora as a unique and historic gem in Edmonton’s growing City. The Old Glenora Conservation Association was successful in convincing the City of Edmonton to undertake a heritage inventory of the entire Glenora neighbourhood. Completed in 2017, 116 properties were added to the Inventory of Historical Resources in Edmonton. Further work continues with the City and the community on a Heritage Character Zoning designation to preserve and guide future development while allowing for complementary new development.
